Data Analysis of an Alternative Potato Sprout Inhibitor
Since 1951 Chlorpropham or CIPC has been the industry standard for inhibiting sprouting on potatoes after harvest. However recent studies and legislation have forced farmers to reduce levels of CIPC or remove it entirely. The 1,4Group has partnered with Con-Agra and Simplot to test an alternative treatment plan that reduces the use of CIPC to lower levels for three years. The resulting experiment
produced a highly non-normal data set. As the standard t-test needs normal
data, additional testing was completed including an attempt on normalizing the
data using Box Cox transformation and non-parametric testing. Additionally,
since this is the second of three years of testing, a dashboard was created in
R to automate the data analysis, and testing for the researchers for the duration
of the project.
