TEXT: Scientific Computing and Differential Equations, An Introduction to Numerical Methods by Golub and Ortega.



GRADING SCHEME: Your grade will be determined by:

Your total score must be at least 90% for an A, 80% for a B, 70% for a C, and 60% for a D.



COMPUTER ASSIGNMENTS: You are encouraged to use Matlab for the computing part of the assignments. Basic instruction on how to program in Matlab will be given during the first week of classes. You will be given an account on the computers in MG 104. Matlab is also available in the Engineering computer lab (ET 212/239) and the Multipurpose Classroom Facility (MP 121). You may purchase the student version of Matlab for $99 from the bookstore or directly from The MathWorks .



GRADUATE STUDENTS: Graduate students will be held to a higher standard than undergraduate students. This includes more challenging homework assignments and examinations.
