Homework is an important part of learning mathematics and you need to schedule time for homework every day.Assignments will be made frequently, collected, corrected and returned. A very minimal point value will be assigned to assignments from the text. Assignments not from the text will be graded and will carry much higher point values.
The problems that I assign total up to less than I believe you need to do as part of your studies for the course.
You will need to work more problems to develop skill and understanding.
Submissions must be neat.
The first time we have an assignment to hand in, I will go over such fascinating topics as
- how to fold the assignment
- where to write your name
- where to write which class this is
- where to write the assignment number.
A numbered assignment may cover several different text sections or handouts. For example, assignments #7 and #8 might be assigned as follows:
Assignment #7 (Page 24: 16, 40) (Page 32: 2, 8, 10)
Assignment #8 (Page 32: 16, 24, 26, 48) (Page 39: 2, 8, 12)Your submissions will likely not be checked or graded if you trespass these rules.
- Assume that #7 and #8 are going to be checked by different people.
- Hand #7 in as a stapled unit.
- Hand #8 in as a separate stapled unit.
- Put #7 in the #7 pile and put #8 in the #8 pile.
- Do not put #7 and #8 on the same paper.
- Do not staple #7 and #8 to each other.
- Do not nest them one inside the other.
