It has been an amazingly long time since I updated this page, but it has happened at last (Nov. 3, 2006).
My intention is to meet once a month, usually on the first Saturday of the month, either in the library or somewhere in the religious school building (depending on the temperature in the library). The meeting will be at 12:30 am, right after the Kiddush for the Saturday service.
We met on Nov. 4 and discussed the first two sections of Dan Fink's article Between Dust and Divinity. We will continue next month with a discussion of the disagreement between the medieval philosophers Saadia Gaon and Maimonides as to whether the universe was created for the sake of human beings (this follows naturally from the rabbi's article)
In the past we have read selections from the Guide for the Perplexed of Maimonides (a link to an e-text is provided below) and we most recently spent some time reading from the Al-Kuzari of Judah Halevi.
