Exams

Exam dates are Feb 14, March 16, and April 18. The final is Thursday, May 10, at 10:30 in the classroom.

The final exams are scheduled so that conflicts are avoided. This does not mean that students cannot have multiple exams on the same day.

No books, notes, or calculators are allowed on the exams. Nothing more than a pen or pencil and some paper.

Syllabi

The text for this course is Calculus on Manifolds by Michael Spivak.

The goal of the course is to prove Stokes' Theorem about the integration of differential forms, at least for chains and, if times permits, for manifolds. Stokes' Theorem is a version of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

In addition to the assigned homework, there will be will be quizzes in class checking whether you are up to date with the material presented in class. These quizzes will be counted as part of your homework. The problems on the exams will not necessarily be taken from the textbook, but you will have encountered problems similar to those on the tests before the test.

Homework

In addition to the assigned homework, quizzes taken in class will be counted as part of your homework.

Homework must be neat and properly presented. If your handwriting is poor, use TeX or Maple or something else to present your work.

In your homework you can quote every exercise or theorem from the textbook that comes before the problem you are working on.

Every assignment is to be completed by you. You may work with others from the class on the material and you may consult other resources, but what you hand in for a grade must be your own work.
