    Daily work:
This course is organized around cooperative learning in small groups. You are expected to read the text on a daily basis so that you can arrive in class with a good foundation to begin working on exercises that I will assign.

During a typical class period, you will discuss with your group what you have read, work on the assigned exercises, and clearly and neatly write up your solutions to the exercises. At the end of each class, each group will hand in written work that represents the effort of the entire group.

Because I want you to work thoroughly and carefully, there is no penalty for not finishing all of the assigned exercises. However, my philosophy is that good performance on all the in-class exercises should translate into good performance on the take-home quizzes, tests, and the final exam. Thus there is motivation for working all the in-class exercises, irrespective of whether you hand them in.

    Grading policy:
Your grade will be determined by your performance in four areas:

Your grade will be computed via the following algorithm. Let x be the number of points accumulated throughout the semester (between 0 and 100):
    A+

    A-
    B+

    B-
    x > 97
    93 < x < 97
    90 < x < 93
    87 < x < 90
    83 < x < 87
    80 < x < 83

    C+

    C-

    77 < x < 80
    73 < x < 77
    70 < x < 73
    65 < x < 70
    x < 65
