Overview of Math 025 and 108 hybrid courses using My Math Lab.
Course Details
This page is for all students enrolled in a non-TV section of
Math 025 or Math 108 on the BSU campus.
Class Sessions and Study Time
Focus Group class sessions for hybrid sections will be held in
room MG 119 in the Math/Geoscience building. Lab sessions will be held in MG 115 or
in the Math Learning Center (across University Dr. from Math/Geoscience).
A minimum of another 6-8 hours a week should be spent in the Math Learning
Center open lab or on the My Math Lab course website studying materials for the course, working on
homework assignments online, or taking online quizzes (see details in subsequent
paragraphs). Note: for a 3 hour course, such as math 025, a student should plan on a minimum of 9
hours of study time each week. For a 4 credit course, such as math 108, a student should plan on a
minimum of 12 hours of study time each week.
All of the OIT managed computer labs on campus are available for students
to work on their math homework and quizzes.
Live Lectures
Any student enrolled in the hybrid course sections of M108/25 is welcome to
attend the live Knowledge Network sections of M025 MWF 10:40 AM, or M108 MTWF 11:40 AM in SMTC 118.
This is a traditional live lecture. A schedule for the topics covered is available on the M108 or M025
course homepage.
Personal Computer Requirements
MyMathLab is a web-based software and students may work from home on any PC or Mac OS X computer with
internet access. High speed is recommended in order to view videos but not required.
My Math Lab software does require the installation of a few small programs to be able to access the
homework and videos. They are referred to as Browser Plugins and consist of the following - Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader,
Apple Quicktime. These plug-ins are free and are available through the MyMathLab site to download. The plug-ins
only need to be loaded once on any particular computer a student is planning to use in conjunction with MyMathLab.
If a student chooses to use more than one computer, each computer will need the plug-ins loaded before all features of
My Math Lab will operate successfully. Even though it may seem convenient to work "at home," you may find a mix of time spent
in the MLC with help available, and time spent at home for practice will be necessary for your success. Since home computers are outside
of our control we cannot guarentee that your computer will work but we will make every effort to assist with any issues you may have.
If you run into difficulties with the web-based software at home, please plan to use the MLC where the computers will be maintained
by a systems administrator in the building.
Testing and Calculators
There are unit tests (modules) and a comprehensive final exam for each of the courses. Use of the on-screen calculator in
Windows will be allowed on unit tests and a student may bring any (non-online) calculator to the final exam.
We look forward to helping you have a successful journey through Elementary
and/or Intermediate Algebra. The course homepages have specific schedules
for the optional campus lectures and the schedule for the Knowledge Network
TV course on campus, these are additional resources you may use for lecture
time.
See you at the MLC!! We are on Chrisway Dr, behind the Gateway
Center, across from the Wellness Center.
