THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANYJoseph Ritte (1899-1901?, 1908-09) A Mr. Ritte was a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy from the June 1899 revival of H.M.S. Pinafore and Trial by Jury through the original production of The Emerald Isle (April-November 1901), and Joseph Ritte was a chorister for the last months of the Second London Repertory Season, appearing from November 1908 until March 1909. They may well be the same individual, however, there was also a singer named Phillip Ritte who appeared in London around the same time. Phillip Ritte took a named small part in one London musical:First Watchman in The Cherry Girl (Vaudeville, 1903-04); Joseph Ritte was the Second Gardener in the comic opera Love and Laughter (Lyric, 1913); and a Mr. Ritte (presumably Phillip or Joseph) was the Fourth Footman in the musical play Nightbirds (Lyric, 1911). |
