Henry Imano (1886-87)

Henry M. Imano appeared as Pooh-Bah in The Mikado with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "D" Company from December 1886 to April 1887, then went on a D'Oyly Carte tour of Germany, Austria, and Holland, as Pooh-Bah and Colonel Calverly in Patience until November 1887.He returned to "D" Company in the British Isles, where he played Pooh-Bah and the Colonel in November and December, at which point the Company was disbanded and Imano's D'Oyly Carte career ended.

Imano later worked in New Zealand, where he was Sergeant Meryll in the island's first professional production of The Yeomen of the Guard (Princess Theatre, Dunedin, March 1890), and America, where he appeared as Dentatus, a Roman patrician, in the comic opera Jupiter with the Digby Bell Opera Company in New York (Palmer's Theatre, May-July 1892).He eventually returned to England where he gave a single matinee performance of the "musical trifle" A Doubtful Proposal at London's Great Queen Street Theatre (June 1900), and appeared as Hankuff in the musical play Hidenseek (Globe, December 1901-January 1902).
