You are here: > > Discussion Compiled by Michael Nash & Sarah MankowskiThe following discussion is a compilation of thoughts and opinions from the SavoyNet MailList. Opinions expressed are those of the individual contributors. MICHAEL NASH: RUDDYGORE, as it was originally called, opened 22 January 1887, while The Mikado was still going strong. Initial reactions to it were very mixed: some loved it, others booed it and called for " Mikado" to be re-instated. RUDDIGORE underwent more post-first-night editing than any other Gilbert And Sullivan opera; it also wasn't revived until after Sullivan's death. Contents
