Princess Toto has a libretto by W.S. Gilbert and a score by Frederic Clay, who not only collaborated with Gilbert several times (Ages Ago, The Gentleman in Black, and Happy Arcadia) but also introduced him to Sullivan. Princess Toto was first performed in 1876 at the Nottingham Theatre. The libretto is included in Plays by W.S. Gilbert, edited by George Rowell (Cambridge University Press, 1982).
