MIDI file (2 min. 35 seconds).
ACT TWO
Same Scene by Moonlight
The Fairies, all but SELENE and DARINE, are discovered discontentedly watching the entrance to SELENE's bower.
For many an hour
Within her bower
With Ethais philandering,
Our excellent Queen
No doubt has been
In roseate dreams,
In roseate dreams,
No doubt has been in roseate dreams meandering.
As a matter of fact
A risky act,
So obviously detectable -
So very unfit
We must admit
Is anything but respectable,
Is anything but respectable!
So very unfit
We must admit
Is anything but respectable!
For many an hour
Within her bower
With Ethais philandering,
Our excellent Queen
No doubt has been
In roseate dreams meandering!
A Queen who dares conventionality despise,
To put it very mildly, is exceedingly unwise.
Here is an act to which we cannot close our eyes,
And must excite our indignation and surprise,
Our indignation, indignation,
And must excite our indignation, indignation and surprise!
For many an hour
Within her bower
With Ethais philandering,
Our excellent Queen
No doubt has been
No doubt has been
In roseate dreams meandering!
'Tis anything but respectable!
'Tis anything but respectable!
So very unfit
We must admit
Is anything but respectable!
