Fallen Fairies. Arthur Robinson has donated a scanned score of this opera which was produced at the Savoy on 15th December 1909. It was Gilbert's last libretto for the stage and has a score by Edward German. In addition, there is a score of the cut song, which was not published in the vocal score, "Oh love that rulest." |

His Excellency. Arthur Robinson has donated a scanned score [PDF, 18MB] of this opera by W. S. Gilbert, with music by Frank Osmond Carr which was produced at the Lyric Theatre on October 27, 1894, with a cast including such familiar faces from the Savoy as George Grossmith (as Griffenfeld), Rutland Barrington (as the Regent), and Jessie Bond. |

The Yeomen of the Guard. The Kalmus orchestral parts have Phœbe's two solos both in their original keys and transposed up one tone. The vocal score only provides them only in the original key. If a soprano is cast as Phœbe, then these two transpositions by Larry Byler would be useful: When maiden loves [PDF, 76KB] and Were I thy bride [PDF 60KB]. |

The Light of the World. We have added MIDI files of the first part of Sulivan's Oratorio, first performed at the Birmingham Music Festival of 1873. The first part compises 27 numbers, approximately two thirds of the score. |

Arrangements for piano duet. The popularity of the Gilbert and Sullivan Operas led to arrangements of the music being made for dancing. These were published both for solo piano and piano duet. 1929-30 D'Oyly Carte Season at the Savoy. In 1929, Rupert D'Oyly Carte rebuilt the Savoy Theatre in the fashionable 'Art Deco' style and re-opened it with a production of The Gondoliers with new costumes designed by Charles Ricketts. A coloured souvenir brochure was issued to commemorate the season. |

The University of Rochester Rare Books and Special Collections Library announces the on-line exhibition "Gilbert and Sullivan: From London to America." Originally mounted at the University of Rochester Library in
2004-5, over 200 items on display are drawn from the collection of Dr. Harold Kanthor and focus on the original Gilbert and Sullivan productions (1871-1896) in London and their transfer to New York and other major American cities. Included are autograph letters and drawings by Gilbert and Sullivan, posters, programmes and souvenirs from the original productions, presentation copies, cabinet photographs of the original performers, and nineteenth century advertising material demonstrating the wide popularity of Gilbert and Sullivan in America. |

HMS Pinafore Trade Cards. The popularity of HMS Pinafore in the U.S.A. led to its characters being used to advertise "Sapolio", a greasy gritty soap, first manufactured in 1869. A set of cards, with parodies of songs from the opera was issued. |

John Reed "in conversation". In September 1973, John Reed, principal comic baritone with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, met a group of fans to talk about his life in the company. Daved Kay taped the conversation and has given a copy of the recording to the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive. |

Princess Ida Vocal Score. The Gilbert and Sullivan Archive Edition. New performing edition of the vocal score of Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida including all the spoken dialogue. The earliest published sources have been consulted whilst compiling this edition, but it takes account of the performing tradition of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, and includes the spoken dialogue. The accompaniment has been partly revised to reflect important orchestral passages previously neglected by published scores. The score is annotated where it deviates in substance from the score and libretto published in the authors' lifetimes. |

Ruddigore. Robert Ray, who directed the award winning Savoynet production of Ruddigore at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in 2006 has given us a copy of his prompt book — a source of inspiration to future directors of the opera. |
