In consultation with their advisor, students should determine their supervisory committee consisting of a minimum of three members and maximum of five, with the majority in the mathematics department. The appointment of supervisory committe
form should be filed with the graduate college as soon as this is determined.
- It is recommended that students meet with their committee two months before the thesis is complete to discuss their progress.
- The committee should receive a draft of the complete thesis at least two weeks prior to the defense.
- The advisor should receive a complete draft of the thesis at least one week prior to it being given to the committee (i.e. three weeks before the defense), so that a final draft with advisor approval is given to the committee.
- The last day to defend for Spring graduation is typically right after Spring break. Do not hesistate to graduate in August, but plan to defend before the committee leaves for the summer.
- Be aware of the deadlines for graduation.
