Periodic orbits and Knots

Alexander Felshtyn

Abstract

The lecture will discuss several interesting phenomena (topological, algebraic, analytic and arithmetic) which are observed in the study of periodic orbits of a dynamical system. The main topics are:
1. Poincare-Hopf theorem and Euler characteristic.
2. Lorenz knots.
3. Sharkovsky ordering. Period 3 implies Chaos. Julia sets.
4. Reidemeister torsion, dynamical zeta functions andcounting periodic orbits.
