How to Take Your Prepaid ALEKS Assessment

Don't start your assessment until you read these tips:

  1. Once you start the assessment, ALEKS will keep your account active for exactly one week.
  2. During that week you can stop and restart your assessment. ALEKS will take you back to where you left off, but you can't start over.
  3. You will need paper, pencil and enough space to work math problems.
  4. You will probably want a hand held calculator.
  5. You should try to answer all the problems that you think you can solve
  6. Do not accept help from other people on your assessment. Assistance on your assessment cannot aid you in your math class and could place you into a course that you are not likely to pass.
  7. Some problems may be beyond your current knowledge. It is appropriate to click "I don't know" on these.
  8. You will need enough time to complete all the problems you know how to do. Most students spend 2 to 3 hours. The chart shows how long students took on their Fall 2008 assessments. (Click on the image for a better view.)
Start your assessment by following these steps:
  1. Go to www.aleks.com/boisestate.
  2. Click on the link that says "SIGN UP NOW!" (Do not use the login box.)
  3. Follow the registration instructions. Be sure to use your 9-digit BSU Student ID number.
  4. You will get an ALEKS login name and password. Write them down. These will also be emailed to you at the address supplied.
  5. Click "Continue" to reach the Assessment screen. When you are ready to start, click on ">>Assessment".
  6. ALEKS will now check your computer for the plugin. If it isn't installed, it will probably install automatically. If it fails to install, click here for advice.
  7. On some computers the ALEKS tutorial will start immediately after the plugin installs. If it doesn't, you have to shut down your browser and restart it.
  8. If you restarted your browser, go back to www.aleks.com/boisestate. This time, use your login name and password. (Do not click on Sign Up Now).
  9. ALEKS will take you through an introductory tutorial and then your assessment will begin.
  10. You can stop and restart if you need to. Just logout. When you log back in ALEKS will take you right back to where you were. Be sure to remember your login and password.
  11. Good Luck!
