Plays by GIlbert. We have added reviews of first nights and some revivals of the following plays by Gilbert: The Palace of Truth, Randall's Thumb, Creatures of Impulse, Pygmalion and Galatea, and The Princess.

The Pirates of Penzance reviews. We have now added reviews of the original production, details of the cast changes in January 1881 and the revivals of 1888, 1900 and 1908 from The Times.

H.M.S. Pinafore reviews. We have now added reviews of the original production, the rival Comedy Opera Company production of 1879, the "Children's Pinafore" and the revivals of 1887, 1899 and 1908 from The Times.

The Sorcerer. We have begun to add reviewsa from the nineteenth century press of productions at the Opéra Comique and the Savoy Theatre — in particular those which appeared in The Times. The first to be added are those of The Sorcerer from 1877, 1884 and 1898.

Fallen Fairies. Arthur Robinson has transcribed and sent us several reviews published during the short run of this Gilbert and German opera at the Savoy. They are from The Pall Mall Gazette, The Athenaeum, The Musical Standard (by Poyser and Strong) , Playgoer and Society, and The Musical Times.

Les Brigands. Gilbert adapted Meilhac and Halévy's libretto of Offenbach's operetta in 1871. Arthur Robinson has scanned the Boosey edition of 1871 and David England has converted it to a PDF file. Whilst the scans are not always ideally clear, they are legible and we are pleased to add this rare work to the Archive.

Two additions to our Virtual Museum. John Sands has sent us scans of a programme from the Alhambra Theatre issued during the run of Sullivan's Victoria and Merrie England, and the Larard Family Queensland, Australia have sent us a cabinet card of Sullivan and other notable Victorian musicians taken in 1880.

Utopia, Limited. There is now a new glossary explaining the obscure terms in the libretto of this opera, courtesy of Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

The Pirates of Penzance. John Sands has sent us scans of another early programme. This one was issued in August 1880, after the cast of the New York production had returned to England.

The Pirates of Penzance. John Sands has sent us scans of a programme issued towards the end of the original run of Pirates at tht Opera Comique. Several cast changes have taken place since the opening night.

The Gondoliers Programme. John Sands has sent us scans of an illustrated programme printed on 25 January 1890 for the original production at the Savoy.

Fallen Fairies Web Opera. We have added a "Web Opera" of this, Gilbert's last comic opera with music by Edward German. Here you will find all the lyric and dialague together with MIDI files of all the music.

Bab Drawings pages for the following operas are now complete: Trial by Jury, The Sorcerer, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, Patience, Iolanthe, Princess Ida, Ruddigore, The Yeomen of the Guard, and Utopia Limited. Those for The Mikado are already on the clip art pages.

Bab Drawings: For many years we had links to Steve Sullivan's site with scans of Gilbert's drawings illustrating the songs from the operas. The host for his site has closed and we have begun re-classifying the drawings and putting them on the Archive. The Gondoliers and The Grand Duke pages are now completed.

Sing, O Heavens: An anthem for any festival occasion, composed by Sullivan in 1869. MIDI files and score are now available.

1938 Mikado Film: Cinegram No. 75 was devoted to this film version of The Mikado which included Martyn Green and Sydney Granville in the cast. We have added an electronic copy of this rare booklet to the Museum section.

Princess Ida: This opera was revived at the Savoy in 1954 with new costumes and scenery by James Wade to replace those destroyed in an air raid. We have added reviews and many pictures of this production.

The Life and Reminiscences of Jessie Bond. Whilst this book has been available on the Archive for some time, the proof reading of the pages left a little to be deired. These pages have now been thoroughly revised and the book is also available in a printed version from Lulu, joining our collection of reminiscences of the orginal Savoyards George Grossmith and Rutland Barrington.
