THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANYHarvey Lucas (1882-84, 1885-86, 1890, 1896-1902) Tenor Harvey Lucas took his first D'Oyly Carte role in February 1882 as the Duke of Dunstable on tourwith Mr. D'Oyly Carte's No. 2 "Patience" Company. He played the role until June 1884 when the Company was disbanded. His next appearance was a brief one--as Nanki-Poo in The Mikado with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "E" Company in November 1885. He succeeded Charles Conyers in the role, but was himself replaced by Walter Gilbert later that month. He remained with "E" Company through 1886, but we the lose track of him until 1890 when, from March to December he took the small part of Annibale in The Gondoliers with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "C". Lucas's next documented appearance was on August 14, 1896, filling is as Hilarion in Princess Ida with D'Oyly Carte Company "C." He was in the Company "E" chorus again in the autumn of 1897, and probably through the spring of 1902. |
